skin mets from bc

I had a herceptin treatment and saw my onc on Tuesday and she is sending me to a dermatologist for a place on my chest near my port that she says looks like a skin cancer. Anyone else have skin mets from their breast cancer? I tried researching this and didn't get much info. Also want update everyone on my son-in-law in PA. He had 3 melenomas removed and his sentinle node was positive so they remove all the nodes in his groin, only one positive. His scans were all clean and he starts his interferon treatments Dec. 14. Five days a week for 3hour infusion for four weeks then injection of interferon 3 times a week for ll months. Sounds very grueling to me.

I hope that when you see the dermatologist that it turns out to be nothing more than dermatitis. Sounds like your sonin-law is in for quite a battle. My prayers go out for both you and he.

Sorry about the rash/skin mets...I don't know enough about them, but I remember Lolly posting about hers, so maybe you can do a search and find something here...your son-in-law breaks my heart. He's got a rough road ahead of him, and my prayers go out to your daughter, to him, and to you. I think it's more painful when our children/families have problems and we worry for and with them than having our own problems. Take care, you've got a lot on your plate right now. Love, Vi

Hi Debbie! I don't know about the skin mets, but I'm glad they sent you pronto to get the area checked and dealt with. Your son-in-law may have a rough road ahead, but he has your daughter (that makes him a lucky duck already) and you to encourage him.
Make time for taking special good care of yourself and do a little pampering too. You've got a full load of "stuff" to deal with and need to keep the "treatment stuff" balanced with some nurturing. You deserve some really good things to happen. I'm praying that God sends you some surprise angels to make life special this holiday season! ma

Hi Debbie,
I've had mets to the skin from my original bc, it's been biopsied several times and the pathology continues to show Her2+, ER/PR- bc. A biopsy is the only definitive way to know if it's breast cancer or skin cancer, so good that you're having it biopsied as the treatments may be different.
Best wishes to your son-in-law, I hope for speedy recovery from the surgery.

Hi Debbie,
My friend had both breast cancer and a melonoma on the same breast. She completed her chemo and mastactomy earlier this year. She has since had a routine CT scan and one of the lymph nodes on the chest wall is positive for her2,but they couldn't get a good enough pathology to determine if it's BC or Melonoma. She had surgery last friday and they removed all of the nodes in her chest,but won't know for another few days what they are dealing with. Is interferon what they use for melanoma? is it the same doses as used for Hep C?

Since I am BRCA2 positive, I have been told by my geneticist/surgical oncologist that my chances of melanoma are slightly elevated so it is advised I get see a dermatologist once a yr for an exam.

I had spread to the skin in 2002. My "rash" had a shiny quality to it. Small red bumps with a shiny line. It appeared after my second ac treatment, so I was bald for nothing. They finally removed all the affected skin area, and put me on herceptin which kept everything quiet. Hope yours is nothing!

I want to thank you all for your responses and prayers. I am still awaiting appt with dermatologist. The area in question is on the side where I had my prophylactic mastectomy and is near to port site. Onc says it appears to be a melanoma. I will most definatly need a biopsy. In answer to Cat question, yes Hep c is treated with interferon also, I don't think the same dose though. It breaks my heart I can't be there for my daughter as she and her husband go through his treatments. We talk on the phone daily and I can tell she is already worn out and the fight has just begun for them. This disease sucks!!!! You girls are what help me keep my sanity. Thank you again.

My original DX included Paget's Disease of the nipple, which is basically skin mets of the nipple. It was dry, flaky, scaly, sometimes itchy and often raw and started to sting over time.
