Breast Red

Hello everyone. I hope all are having a wonderful Sunday afternoon. It is raining here in S. Mississippi.

Anyway, I woke up yesterday morning with my left breast (the one with the lumpectomy) red from the nipple to about 3/4 of the way up. It itches a little, and if feels different from the right. I hope it is an allergic reaction to something, but would it just be on my left breast if it is that? I can's help but wonder if it is IBC. I surely hope not. I took bennadryl hoping it would help the situation if it was an allergic reaction. I haven't changed detergent, body lotion, soap, etc. It does feel warmer that the right breast.

I don't go back to the doctor until February. Should I call and make an appointment?

Thanks
Linda

Hi Linda,

I think a visit to the doctor before February is a good idea. It's probably nothing, but one never knows so it's worth a check by the Doc.

Good Luck,

Mary Jo

Linda,

I am sorry you are having this unwelcome development. I know a bc survivor who had itching and a rash that occurred almost three years after her lumpectomy in her affected breast. It turned out she had a staph infection, which required antibiotics to clear up. So, don't automatically fear the worst, but do see the doctor sooner than later.

All the best,

Hopeful

It is also raining hard here in Destin, Florida after a beautiful sunny afternoon. Went for a 4 mile walk and it felt like rain and sure enough it is. If it was me I
would wait a few days and if it didn't clear up call my doctor. They tell us if a symptom is still present after two weeks then it needs to be checked out. If it is IBC then you need to know asap! Wishing you well and let us know. hugs, Sandy

Please see a doctor ASAP. No Matter what it may be, waiting until Feb should be out of the question. Warmth, red, itching aren't good signs for a number of things. Please call your doc tomorrow and get in this week. Love, Vickie

Red Breast

Maybe I have jumped the gun a little. This morning the color is starting to deminish, and the itching bearable. So maybe it is just an allergic reaction to something. Just can't figure out what it could be or why it just affected the left breast. I'll give it a few more days and see what is happening.

Thanks for all of your responses.

Linda,

I'm not sure how far out of treatment you are, or if you had rads, but I had cellulitis months after I completed radiation treatment. It is a skin infection and easily treatable with antibiotics. But it isn't something that you want to let go. Is it warm to the touch? Do you have a fever? I don't think a call to the Dr would hurt in any event.

Linda...I had similar symptoms....which turned out to be cellulitis. Make an appt to get it checked out. If it is cellulitis (and my onc. said this was fairly common...given all the trauma that your breast has been through), they will put you on antibiotics.

It may take quite a while for it to finally clear up. It took over 2 months for mine to resolve. (Don't scare yourself....I was sure I had IBC).

I think infection or some other skin irritation with the lumpectomy is probably more likely than anything else. What is your history?
