Many breast cancer donations only swell corporate profits: study
"A full third of money donated to breast-cancer fundraisers ends up boosting the profits of their corporate sponsors instead of increasing research, an Ontario study suggests.
Samantha King, a professor in the school of kinesiology and health studies at Queen's University in Kingston, investigated the use of the donations.
King's research found that 64 per cent of donated money is funnelled into research projects.
She told CBC News on Wednesday that corporate-sponsored breast cancer fundraising has become a market-driven industry focused less on research and more on profit."
