VERY GOOD QUESTION! I would say the million dollar question! :-)

I'm stage 3b (old staging system, so probably 3c under new stanging system). Neoadjuvant. Primary tumor 6cm totally disappeared at mastectomy surgery. 17 out of 18 positive nodes. 6 months out since conventional chemo. In remission now.

Been on Herceptin for tentative year. Expires in Aug 2004.

My primary onc says to discontinue Herceptin, since I'm ER/PR positive & take hormonal therapy. I just got 'free' opinion from another onc (relative's acquaintance). He also agrees with her recommendation. So, I'll be getting the 3rd opinion soon.

All of these 3 onc's work for top cancer centers (nationally ranked).

We all are spectulating a LOT about Herceptin these days. It boils down to the fact that it's a very new drug. Remember FDA granted Herceptin use for met patients only in 1998. That's only a few years ago. We're fortunate enough to get Herceptin for early stages now.

I'm very interested to hear what advice you get from your onc's in terms of staying on Herceptin or not after the 1st year.

Take care, sisters!! Hugs
