Re: 3 months short of 10 years since diagnosis

Steph, you are part of the first new wave for HER2's, with so many unknowns along the way and so many decisions about how to best shape your treatment at each turn in the road... a road that looked short when you started... Many, many more miles to you!

Diagnosed on 02/18/09 at 38 with a huge 12x10 cm tumor, after a 6 month delay. Told I was too young and had no risk factors. Found swollen node during breastfeeding.
March-August 09: neo-adjuvant chemo, part of a trial at Stanford (4 DD A/C, 4 Taxotere with daily Tykerb), loading dose of Herceptin
08/12/09 - bye bye boobies (bilateral mastectomy)
08/24/09 - path report shows 100 % success in breast tissue (no cancer there, yay!), 98 % success in lymphatic invasion, and even though 11/13 nodes were still positive, > 95 % of the tumor in them was killed. Hoping for the best!
September-October 09: rads with daily Xeloda
02/25/10 - Cholecystectomy
05/27/10 - Bone scan clear
06/14/10 - CT scan clear, ovarian cyst found
07/27/10 - Done with Herceptin!
02/15/11 - MVA-BN HER-2 vaccine trial
03/15/11 - First CA 15-3: 12.7 and normal, yay!
10/01/11 - Bone scan and CT scan clear, fatty liver found
now on Tamoxifen and Aspirin

Congratulations Steph,

Thanks for sharing your good news. Maybe you and I should bottle up some of this Northwest Rain and send it to our friends in the south with all that hot sunshine. Maybe the rain caused your back to seize up...tee, hee.

I agree with the others, you are an inspiration and we are so happy for your 10 year mark with only more to come.

Hugs, Catherine

Re: 3 months short of 10 years since diagnosis

Forgot to mention though it can be figured out from my sig below.

EIGHT of those ten years as Stage IV. HA! Take that cancer schmanser ...

Suzan - just let me know the dates you will be up here. We'll do it this time.

Catherine - Some folks definitely could use some of this wet stuff. End of June and our heat still comes on at times, but we are saving on watering outside. Still want hot soup for lunch - not a summer thing!

Re: 3 months short of 10 years since diagnosis

What a wonderful story you have to share. Thanks for your many contributions to this website.

(I have degenerative issues with my back, as well, which can cause a heck of a scare from time to time. How thankful we are when we learn that the aches/pains are caused from "just" aging.)

Re: 3 months short of 10 years since diagnosis

Steph,

Congratulations!

Thanks for sharing your story and your journey. My recurrence was classified as IIB like your initial diagnosis. Now I'm very hopeful that I may be NED down the road just like you. (Not sure if I should have counted myself as being 3-year NED or not...)
