The comparison of rates of parents and children is complex.

Inherited Genes are only one aspect.

Food alters gene expression.

Common diet and environment are factors.

Foetal and early nutrition are factors which reflect the mothers nutritional status.

I think the article acknowledges that genetics is just one factor:

"The researchers acknowledge that since parents and offspring share the same environment, they cannot rule out the effect of social and behavioral factors such as participation in screening programs on survival.

But Lindström and colleagues favor a model whereby the genetic background of an individual interacts with environmental factors to modify the course of the disease."

You are right it does.

I skimmed half of it only I'm afraid - jumping to conclusions as many articles do not look at wider factors.
