herceptin treatment

Does anyone know if herceptin is more effective receiving it every week after chemotherapy or every three weeks after chemotherapy. I have received two different treatment options. Any information is greatly appreciated.

There have been many discussions on weekly vs three week herceptin treatments. Here is a link that you may find useful.

Hi there. During my treatment (chemo), I received the Herceptin weekly. Once chemo was over, my onc moved it to every three weeks. I may go back to weekly now for other reasons. I have a friend with my exact diagnosis (scary!), and she did it the same way. I would want to have as many chemos with the Herceptin as possible- and my Taxol was weekly. The link mentioned above is good to read-

Love, Kelly

I am getting the Taxol and Herceptin for 12 weeks and then Herceptin every 3 for another 46 weeks. So, far I have had few side effects and am wondering if the 3 week dose is 3 times the weekly. I am assuming that. If I get reactions from the every 3, I am going to ask about weekly. It may just be about convenience of my having to go weekly.

The three week dose is mainly for convenience -- not having to go to the oncologist's office every week. Youi don't get less if you get if on the 3 week schedule. Weekly you get a week's dose and 3 weeks you get a 3 week dose. Also Herceptin has a cumulative effect - meaning it stays in your body for a while even after you stop treatment.
