Finally, my re-excision is tomorrow. Been waiting 3 weeks for this. Seems like the longest 3 weeks of my life. I am so ready to get this show on the road.

Had first lumpectomy on 12/27. Margins were not clear of DCIS. Pathology found 2 foci of IDC with the largest being .3 cm (3 mm).

My sister (dx w/ ILC stage IIB last January) saw her oncologist today and told him about me and he gave his opinion on how he would treat me. Ovarian supression and an AI instead of tamoxifen due to a maternal grandmother who had both uterine cancer (age 50ish) and later breast cancer. He mentioned a P53 gene (think that is what it is called) that links ovarian cancer and breast cancer but there is no way to test for it yet. So, got some info before I go see my oncologist. Her onc said he would gladly consult with mine. LOL.

Wish me luck!

Heres to clear margins...

Skeetur,

best of luck with everything tomorrow. We have something in common you & I. My maternal grandmother had breast cancer in her thirties and a new primary sometime later that they documented began as ovarian. I will be anxious to hear what your onc says about this info. My onc is against me having my ovaries out. I told him I am leaning that way ( because of my grandmother), but he & I just disagree about the topic. I am going to wait awhile... finish radiation, keep going for herceptin every three weeks and make a final decision down the road.

Take Care

I just corrected my post. My maternal grandmother had uterine cancer not ovarian. My mind was thinking about the ovarian suppression and got on the ovary track. The uterine cancer would be the reason not to take tamoxifen.

My paternal grandmother had uterine cancer too but hers didn't surface til age 95 so I've heard that she really doesn't count when looking at genetic factors.

Good luck to you, Susan!
