Gary,
As upsetting as it is, it is normal for your mom to feel this way and want to talk it out with someone. It's a measure of her love for you and trust in you that she feels she can open up to you like this. It's a necessary part of the process. Help her get her affairs in order, address all her concerns and then she'll feel that she's again in charge, not cancer, and hopefully that will help her in facing treatment decisions and getting back her old fighting spirit.
Hugs, Lolly

It is quite normal to feel depressed and/or angry when confronted with serious illness, especially when it affects ones indpendence, quality of life and life expectancy. These sort of issues can be worked through with counselling, but sometimes that is not enough if depression is profound or pervasive. There are some excellent treatments for depression these days, so you and your mother needn't feel you must cope alone.Ask your physician for help... he/she may be able to recommend something to help boost neurotransmitter levels in the brain which makes everything so much easier to cope with. And yes, they usually do take some weeks to work, so the earlier you ask for help the better.
