Last week was the one year diagnosis of my liver and bone mets diagnosis. I can well remember how grave the onc looked as he told me that he hoped to give me a year with treatment.

My liver was shutting down, and was completely covered in tumors. My skin was yellow, the whites of my eyes were yellow. Everyone was afraid that I wasn't going to make it even the year.

Well---update! The bone mets went NED in august 04, and my liver mets is to the point where I've almost reached NED. I have a ct scan tomorrow morning to check.

On the one year anniversary of my mets diagnosis, I was at the top of Aspen Mtn (Ajax) ready to ski down, and I couldn't help but think wow! What a difference a year makes! I thought, I'm alive, and I feel great! I skiied for a full five days last week at 4 different ski resorts, Buttermilk, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and Aspen Mtn.

We're making new statistics here!

Congratulations and thank you for posting this great news. You give hope and inspiration to the newly diagnosed and to us who continue to fight. Because of your example, others who write on this websiite, and his experience with his own patients, my oncologist is reluctatant to make predictions. When I had brain, liver and lung mets last May he just told by husband that I could have years.
Thanks and may you reach and continue NED.

Esther that is so awesome to hear!! When I saw you in San Antonio I would not have known at that time you had been on chemo almost a year!! You looked great and it amazed me how much you could do. I will keep you in my prayers tonight that your cat scan comes out NED. Hugs, Sandy

Esther- I am crying tears of joy for you right now! I am so happy to read your wonderful news - for you and for me. I was up there on that mountain with you for a split second. The last time I went skiing, the bar went up on the chair lift and so did my wig. Funny, huh? I am so proud of you...Keep up the good work!!! Maryann

To all celebrating-
It just goes to show you that doctors don't always know how long we have. There is always hope. And I hope you all can stay positive and strong and fight to stay NED! Keep Praying.

Esther,

I live in Colorado and it tires me out just thinking of DRIVING to Aspen, much less skiing it. Make me feel better--tell me you're 22!

Love and light,

Lisa

Esther -
I am holding a picture of your liver in my mind that will look just like mine - with perhaps one little 1/2cm spot that will just sit there for CT after CT with no change like mine has done for 1.5 years now. The rest of that organ completely regenerated and healthy.

Glad to hear the skiing was so exhilerating! I used to ski a lot myself and rather miss it. After the 5 weeks of Decadron for my brain mets, I am so weak in my knees, that I can barely get up stairs carrying a few groceries!
Rehabing myself yet again ... sigh.

Not only are you NED but it sounds like you're making the most of it - that's called living!

Like you, things looked pretty bad for me for a while but my TWO YEAR anniversary for my mets dx is coming up in the next couple of weeks and I am NED.

It's up to us to show others the way it can be done.

Congrats,

Peggy in Florida
