Back to Wills Eye on Tuesday...

for my first post plaque check up there. I saw the local retinal specialist two months ago here. It's a two day deal, so I'm guessing they will do the exam and ultrasound on Tuesday. I don't know what else is on Tuesday's agenda. Wednesday is the Avastin injection and perhaps a laser treatment. I am anxious to know if the tumor is still shrinking and if whatever they do will further affect my vision. The avastin is supposed to help the cause, but laser and continuing effects of radiation will essentially destroy central vision by 18 months. I don't see the very specialized ocular melanoma oncologist until May 1. Will probably be another liver scan before then. I'm really hoping I'm eligible for an adjuvant oral chemo pill called Sutent. But that's getting ahead of myself.... right now we're aiming for continuing tumor death. I pray for all of you every night.

Re: Back to Wills Eye on Tuesday...

Barb - I think many of us pray for this group on a daily basis. It means a lot to me to still know that there is so much caring here. So know that you are prayed for as well. Easter blessing to you, too.

Barb,

Your little snowman sits right by my recliner and I am looking at his smiling face. He reminds me to pray for you. I will be praying for you as you go through the scary stuff at Wills. You will be in good hands--His and the staff at Wills.

Have a blessed Easter holiday. I will PM you soon to catch you up on my crazy week, but I know you will understand when I tell you now that I will be able to come up to see you soon. I was thinking of popping up this week sometime, but will wait now since you will be down in Philly this week.

Re: Back to Wills Eye on Tuesday...

Back from Wills today. News about the eye itself was pretty good. The radiation has shrunk the tumor to half it's size, macula is healthy, there is little fluid and vision is barely affected (for now). The central vision will go by 18 months, and of course the main worry is still the possibility of mets. See the uveal malanoma oncologist in Philly on May 1. I'm really hoping that I will qualify for adjuvant therapy. Tired and ready to sleep in my own bed and eat home cooking! Thanks for your prayers, ladies.

I survived a laser procedure to the retina and an injection of

avastin into my eye. No pleasant, but doable.

Re: Back to Wills Eye on Tuesday...

Well, folks, saw our Barb last week. We went out to a cute little place near her thriving metropolis in the mountains of Pennsylvania and had the best cheese steaks! Seriously, Philly has nothin' over little Hillsgrove!

We had a wonderful time laughing our fool heads off! Barb looks terrific and her spirits are buoyant. I came over from our cabin in my 4 wheel drive pick up. It was two gray haired ladies in a truck doing the town (ok, village....barely). Whoohoo!

Enjoyed our day enormously! Waiting now for next mri of liver and ct of lungs to be scheduled. Then it's back to Philly to the specialist ocular oncologist on May 1.

Loved seeing you, Laurel. Hope there's a chance for another get together sometime this summer.
