Please pray for Mom

Hi Friends,
I just wanted to let you know that my mom had a mild stroke yesterday. She had the CTscan, carotid doppler and Echo. All came out neg. The MRI is scheduled for tomm. I am wondering what could have brought this on. The neuro. said that malignant states tend to throw clots. I presume that people who have had cancer are more prone to clots. I was wondering what the experience on the board was and what explanation you all could think of. This was so sudden, please pray for her.
Thanks,
Anne

Hi Ann, I don't know if there is a correlation between cancer and blood clots. Some meds, like tamoxifen, have clots as a side effect. I hope your mom has a good recovery. BB

Anne;

I am so sorry to hear of your mom's stroke. I don't know why this would happen and perhaps it is not related to the cancer? or treatments? This disease and the treatments are so HUGE in our lives and so complicated. I will pray for your mom....strokes are dangerous so I'm glad it was a small one.

The good news is hopefully that it was a mild one. My Mom suffered a slight stroke a couple years ago, and although she was on tamoxifex, they attributed it more to age, high B/P, CHF, diabetis among other health problems...not to mention high cholesterol! Hopefully she will not have any impairment from it. My prayers are with you

Anne...

I am so sorry about your mother and yes, she will be in my prayers. Yes, my onc nurse told me that cancer patients are more prone to clots. During radiation, my one leg was swollen so they had an ultrasound done to check for clotting...it was ok, but my nurse is ALWAYS telling us that we will have to be careful of clots. Do they have her on Coumadin (blood thinner to break up the clots)? Was it a mild or severe stroke? My father had several due to the irrepairable blockage in his heart. Take care and God bless.

I saw an ad in some magazine I was reading, don't even remember what it was, for something about deep vein thrombosis(sp?). I kinda glanced at the ad and people who have had cancer are one of the poeple listed at risk for it. Dvt can caose blood clots which can break lose and cause strokes according to the ad. I think it was for some medicine, but don't remember. Try typing dvt into like webmd's search and see what it says.
