Randy Pausch was one remarkable man. I was so glad to have tuned into Oprah one day and been able to see him and hear his words. The one bit of wisdom that he stated and that I gave to my granddaughter Raven who is thirteen (but not dating) is when you start to date don't just listen to what your date says but watch his actions. Oh so true.
He will be sadly missed. But on the other hand I am happy for all he was able to accomplish on this earth in his 47 yrs and what his lecture has done for me.

Lumpectomy x's two clean margins, sentinal and one lymph node neg
Mamosite
TCH 4 rounds allergic to Carboplatin
Heceptin for one year -finished
Femara for 5 years
Also have MS which is status quo since 2000

I was just reading about his death. He really made
an impression on a lot of people with his ideas about
life. I am sad for his family.

Diagnosed June, 06, Stage I, Grade3, ER+PR- Her2positive, No Nodes. A/C X 4. Radiation 33 with boost, Herceptin every two weeks until Nov.
07, Arimedex for 5 years. Mugas and Echo and chest xRay. Bone scan of whole Body, and Back of Brain and spine MRI.
CT scan of Lungs every six months
due to two small places. December
2009, bone scan due to bone pain.
Follow up test in 2010.

This saddened me too although I feel certain he must have had a positive impact on many people in the same situation as he was.
He had remarkable strength and dignity and I'm sure his children will watch his lecture time and time again and feel so proud of him.

Stopped Arimidex July 2014- Restarted Arimidex 2015 for a further two years on the advice of my Onc.
2014 Normal Dexa scan
2018 Mammo all clear, still NED!

Thanks Pinkgirl. He made a lasting impression on me and Nicola. We were blessed to have been able to see him and his lecture on Oprah together last Fall. He was quite a man.

Diagnosed stage 2b in July 2003 (2.3 cm, HER2+, ER-/PR-, 7+ nodes). Treated with mastectomy (with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction), AC + T/Herceptin (off label). Cancer advanced to lung in Jan. 2007 (1 cm nodule). Started Herceptin every 3 weeks. Lung wedge resection April 2007. Cancer recurred in lung April 2008. RFA of lung in August 2008. 2nd annual brain MRI in Oct. 2008 discovered 2.6 cm cystic tumor in left frontal lobe. Craniotomy Oct. 2008 (ER-/PR-/HER2-) followed by targeted radiation (IMRT). Coughing up blood Feb. 2009. Thoractomy July 2009 to cut out fungal ball of common soil fungus (aspergillus) that grew in the RFA cavity (most likely inhaled while gardening). No cancer, only fungus. Removal of tiny melanoma from upper left arm, plus sentinel lymph node biopsy in Feb. 2016. Guardant Health liquid biopsy in Feb. 2016 showed mutations in 4 subtypes of TP53. Repeat of Guardant Health biopsy in Jana. 2021 showed 3 TP53 mutations, BRCA1 mutation and CHEK2 mutation. Invitae genetic testing showed negative for all of these. Living with MBC since 2007. Stopped Herceptin Hylecta (injection) treatment in March 2020. Recent 2021 annual CT of chest, abdomen and pelvis and annual brain MRI showed NED. Praying for NED forever!!

I think it wasn't so much that BECAUSE he was going to die he was going to have fun as much as he (and everyone on earth) should have fun no matter what. Period.
He even says he is not so unique but he was because he said out loud what many of us only think and not say (or complain about it).

Prolia every 6 months for osteopenia

He was born in 1960, the same year as me. But the news say he is 47. So he is actually a few months younger than me. Chinese has a certain saying to describe people who has died young: "The Heaven is jealous of the talented." Kind of similar to the English expression: "God only takes the best."

Oh yes, I just heard the news today. Relatively speaking, he died so young, but the impact he had on so many people and the joy of living that he was able to appreciate gave him such a rich full life.

When my onco nurse first email his speech. I was so amaze. I told myself "I want his attitude." There is no stopping me now. I release all negative around me and I am enjoying my life. Thank you Randy you are my inspiration.

I loved his book - very sobering, yet uplifting at the same time. His zest for life and his ability to have fun (even when dying) are inspiring. A true role model.

Tumor 2.2 cm, Stage II, Grade 3, Sentinel Node biopsy negative
ER+ (30%) /PR+ (50%), HER2+++
AC X 4 dose dense, Taxol X 4 dose dense
Herceptin started with 2nd Taxol, given weekly until chemo done
then given every 3 weeks for one year ending on March 16, 2007
Radiation 30 treatments
Tamoxifen - 2 yrs (pre-menopausal)
May 2008 - Feb 2012 Femara
Aug 2008 - Feb 2012 Zometa every 6 months
March 2012 - Stop Femara, now Evista for bone strengthening
