Monica...

Monica,

I am noting that you are not taking hormonal drugs, despite ER+. Is this a personal choice? Are you doing other "natural" things to help the ER factor? Sorry I'm going off on a tangent here.

THanks,

Terri

Hi Terri,
I may have MS, and when I tried three separate times to go on tamoxifen, each time my MS got substantially worse. Studies have shown that for a number of women who have MS that when they go through menopause their MS degrades substantially. My oncologist was not very happy, but I decided that I would rather risk a recurrence rather than exacerbate my MS. Even though I was in my mid 40's I also never went through menopause during chemo. I really am not doing anything herbally. However, I do take melatonin, and some scientists theorize that it may be effective because of its reduction of estrogen. I also take plenty of fish oil, which I understand also helps. I feel incredibly fortunate that I have been cancer free for over four years without any sort of hormonal treatment. I was 95% ER+. I think it says a lot about the power of herceptin.

Best,
Monica

Monica--I started a different thread for those with MS and other neurodegenerative

diseases wondering "outloud" whether you noticed any improvement or worsening of MS while on herceptin.

Any observations to report?

Thanks
