Bronchoscopy results and a question
Hi everyone, Just wanted to tell you the lung doctor called me at 7:30 last night to tell me the bronchoscopy showed no malignancy---good news, and what I expected. But she said she feels she needs to do another kind of needle biopsy of the lung, and I am wondering why. She said it was just a precaution, to make absolutely sure there is nothing there. I am inclined not to do it, even though I am very impressed by this doctor. I think I will discuss it with my new oncologist. As I said before, we have been extremely impressed with the quality of doctors and hospitals here in St. George, Utah. They all seem so thorough and so caring, taking extra time and explaining everything. Have any of you had the broncoscopy and then another biopsy too?
We are leaving Saturday morning to drive to Texas to see our 31 year old granddaughter who is dying of acute renal failure. She has been on daily dialysis for nearly 10 years and it is no longer working. Please pray for her---her name is Jennifer. She is the little granddaughter who gently chastised me when I was first diagnosed with BC over 20 years ago. I didn't want the children and grandchildren to know, but Jennifer and her cousin came to me and said "Grandma, how can we take care of you and pray for you if you don't want us to know you need us?" Now she is the one so very ill, and my heart aches for her. It seems sad to me that I am still alive after 3 bouts with cancer and severe heart problems and Jennifer is the one dying. Jenn's mom, our daughter Sherrill, is also not well. We feel we just have to spend some time with them. Then on the way back we will stop in Arizona to attend the wedding of another granddaughter. It will be an emotional trip! I will touch base here when we get back, but be thinking and praying for all of you. Hugs, Tricia

Tricia, my heart goes out to during this most difficult time with your grandaughter. It is so sad when one of our loved ones, so young, is stricken with such illness. It is difficult as the elder to understand it all but we are not the ones who decide anyone's fate. I am praying for her and you and want you to know my thoughts are with you. What an emotional trip indeed, the bad with the good, (your other grandaughter's wedding). Talk about an emotional roller coaster ride. Glad your trip will end on a positive note though. Try to enjoy the good times. I know your visit with the sick daughter and grandaughter will be much appreciated and that your support will mean the world to them.
Also good luck with your decision on whether or not to have the biopsy. I don't know anything about this but hopefully all will be okay as the bronchoscopy showed.

Dear Sweet Tricia - You really are such a sweet, sweet soul. That comes through loud and clear on this board. Such a positive inspiration you are to many on this board. We are blessed to "know" you in this way.
I have offered up a prayer for your granddaughter Jennifer. I pray the Lord's peace to surround her and all of the family during this time.
God Bless you,
Mary Jo

I am sorry about your granddaughter. Isn't that just like life -- a life-threatening illness and a wedding at the same time. I get so focused on cancer that I forget there are other life threatening medical conditions. My cousin died last Christmas Eve from HepC. I remember when he was 5 and I was 8 I taught him to tie his shoes. It's so painful to lose loved ones. I am sending up a prayer for you and yours.

Tricia
I am thinking of you so much. What hard family times. You are so strong and so warm and comforting. I know your family will feel better with your presence. Travel safe and take care of yourself first so you can help the others. I'm happy about the bronchoscopy (not that you had to have it, but the results).
I had a broken windshield in St. George once and found it to be lovely there despite picking glass out of my legs for awhile. I'm happy the medical care seems quite good.

Needle biopsy
Tricia; Initially I had the bronchoscopy, then the needle biopsy to make sure that in fact this was a recurrence from the original diagnosis from 1994, and indeed it was, the doctor wants to make sure that there is a connection to the bc, and not lung cancer. When the cells from the lung are biopsed the doc's will know that the cells are from the breast and not other type of cells, such as non-small lung cancer cells, It's important to go through it. Not the best answer but, hey, you are a long time bc survivor, another biopsy won't hurt you! Hugs.

Why must our lives be filled with such bittersweet events....you have a grandaughter so gravely ill at such a young age, and another about to marry...I am so glad to hear your lung tests were normal, and I will keep your grandaughter Jennifer in my prayers....have a safe trip Tricia.
