Retesting Brca 1,2

My Dr is retesting my Brac test since the one I had 5 yrs ago is outdated. I was adopted at birth so I do not have any information on my history other than a maternal grandmother who had uterin cancer. The new test is a 17 panel test compared to the 5 panel that I had.

Also, since I was stage I, I reach my 5 yrs on tamoxifen in the spring so she said I do not have to keep taking it for the 10 yrs that they are recommending. If I was stage II or above she would recommend it.

Re: Retesting Brca 1,2

Snolan,
I was BRCA tested in 2002 (-), diagnosed with stage 2B BC in 2004,and retested in 2005 With so many other genes to test for I'm exploring testing again now that there are more options.
Anyone with significant family history and or personal history should reconsider seeing a Certified Genetics Counselor and finding the panels that are appropriate for them.

Good luck to both if us!
Warmly, Marcia

Re: Retesting Brca 1,2

I had the Brca test done in 2013 all negative. This year though they did another Brca test that also included 47 additional genetic markers all Negative. They weren't sure if my insurance would cover it but they did

Re: Retesting Brca 1,2

I was tested in 2013 for the Brca was negative. Then in 2015 I found out about this huge my risk panel that they can test for like 47 genes including the Brca again. It was called my risk. I think there are different versions of it. I wasn't sure my insurance would cover it but they did and all test came back normal.
Also at age 47 made sure to get my colonoscopy and they found one polyp but it was benign.

Re: Retesting Brca 1,2

I was also stage 1, and after completing the 5 years total of Tamoxifen and Femara, my oncologist advised me that I did not have to do 10 years.

I had BRCA testing because of my age at diagnosis, (just turned 48) and my Ashkenazi Jewish background. I as negative. No real close family history, my oncologist told me it would have been very unlikely that I had the either of the BRCA 1 or 2 genes. I am 9 years out now, and do not intend to get retested for the BRCA.

all the bes
