Targeted radiation on pectoral muscle

Hi All,

I'm looking for anyone who has had targeted radiation to their pectoral muscle. I have a tumor deep under my major pec muscle. It's between my major and my minor pecs.

Sugery was original plan, but now I have an appt. with a radiologist to see if some targeted radiation therapy would be appropriate.

I want to understand what types of radiation could be used. I don't know much about specific types, just that I have already had radiation before, so I'm hoping they can offer me something that can go this deep to get to the tumor and would just blast this tumor and not surrounding tissue.

Reason I want to know before appt. is to understand if local center can offer my what I need or if I need to travel to get state of art treatment. Before I traveled to CTCA b/c they had more too offer.

Any ideas?

I am grateful for all input.

Thanks!

Cyberknife might be a good choice. Seems like it has the most control. So no biopsy?

Re: Targeted radiation on pectoral muscle

My surgery has been put on hold while I wait to see the radiation Dr. to see what she can offer. I am trying to understand if there are types of radiation out there that can target the tumor in my pec without having to have surgery to remove it first.

Seems radiation is more appropriate when a tumor is inoperable. If surgery is not possible, perhaps an ablation approach might be possible. if surgery is possible, a tumor sample could analyzed for basic pathology or sent in for chemosensitivity testing.
