Like you I'm convinced fibres that can bind a lot of fluid can work both ways, either get things moving or bulking them up for slower movement. During chemo I varied between finely ground coconut and ground flax seed in my joghurt or oats, and chia seed soaked in juice when I wanted something sweet and cool. Worked a charm.
