avastin users?

my 3rd cousin is currently being treated with avastin for tumors on her spine. they say it is triple negative, her first type was not her 2. I was just wondering what anyone may know about this treatment. her mother is really worried and i told her about this board and all the knowledge and experience we share here. I told her i would ask about it on this board and see what expereinces others had with this type of treatment. thanks!!

I had Avastin 2 different times in my breast cancer treatment....had good results for a time, but also developed high blood pressure and lots of nosebleeds....hope itmismsuccessful for her!

I was in avastin for a time in combo with tykerb. Sheila and I were roommates at SABCS while both on avastin and had to request Kleenex refills several times! So the nosebleed thing is for real, but all in all, for me it was very tolerable. Elevated BP is also also a issue, but can be controlled - just make sure to keep a close eye on it to nip it if it starts to get high.

I have two friends with bc mets doing well on Avastin and hoping they can continue due to the recent withdrawl of FDA approval for BC. I have another friend battling Ovarian cancer stage iv and this drug has given her an extra three years so far and hope your cousin does well on it.

Its a targeted therapy like Herceptin so side effects are not too bad!
