Losing weight??

In the last month I have been losing weight. It's not a lot, about 4 lbs or so, but I don't normally lose weight without working at it. If I was dieting that would be OK, but I have been eating quite a bit, in fact... a lot. I haven't been working out as much either. Under other circumstances this would be fantastic and I'd be happy but of course I can't help worrying it might mean something bad, like cancer coming back. Can cancer cause you to start losing weight by itself without being on chemo? I don't have my scans again until January but was clean in July. I feel stupid for worrying about this, I know you gals might have some opinions..sherryg683

Hi Sherry,
Of course your mind turns to the worst...but just maybe you have been more active than you realize and burning more calories. While 4 pds. is not a big weight loss, it could even be mostly water loss. Have you eaten more fruit or blueberries? Certain fruits and veggies are natural diuretics...you do not have any other symptoms
and feel good otherwise I would not stress...(I know easier said then done) maybe you could move up your scans a month sooner and this would give you some comfort.

I would think if the weight loss is steady each week and you are eating the same amount of calories /and not adding additional exercise...then maybe you want to go further with a check up/or even have some blood work done. For the most part though I don't think 4 pds.
should cause you to stress.

Love your photo of you and your beautiful family!

All Good Wishes,
jean

Hi Sherry,
Did you have the lung mets biopsied to make sure they were truly mets and not something else? I had multiple lung nodules show up on ct scans. I did not opt to have them biopsied at the time, we are just watching them. About 6 months after that I also went through a spell where I was losing weight and I panicked. I lost about 10 pounds in about a month and a half. At that time I didn't realize that I had not been going to town as often and therefore I was not eating as much fast food as normal. I right away, instead of going in for scans, started packing in the food. I stopped the weight loss and gained some as a result. I know that if you are concerned, you should see your onc and not do what I did. The answer to if cancer can cause weight loss is yes. I think that it is more profound loss than you have experienced though.
Keep us informed.
Alice

Sherry, I don't have an answer for you but wanted to say don't "feel stupid for worrying"! We worry. It is part of the package.
Maybe your onc could offer reassurance. Or like Jean suggested, move up the scan if it would make you feel better.
Keep the faith. And keep us posted.
