Steroids hours before Taxol infusion?

Reading a sheet on taxol mentions:
"You will need to take
dexamethasone tablets 12 hours
and 6 hours before your treatment,"

I don't think this was done with my mom.

Not to worry...

I freaked out when I read that on the fact sheet because thay hadn't prescribed any of that for me. Instead, they gave me IV steroid and antinausea meds before the taxol infusion. It worked just fine. I expect that is what your mom got but you could easily verify that with her oncology nurse.

I'm sure you've already done this, but if not, make sure you discuss all the issues your mom has been having post-treatment. Maybe they can adjust some of the premeds or taxol dosage. Is she getting a 3 week dose? Perhaps you could ask about doing a weekly dose instead; it may be easier to tolerate. I had weekly T/C/H.

I'm sure she is probably getting the steroids thru IV at the time of Taxol. I always had them IV and didn't even know some people got them orally. I think it has most to do with the Dr. and insurance.

My steroids were given via IV right before the Taxol. I thought this was because I was on a weekly schedule.
