Memorial donations
Although I know Christine does NOT want us to have a memorial page, I would like to see us start a Memorial/Honor fund. Just thinking back recently, we've lost Mary, Janelle, Linda and now Lyn. I'm sure there are others I can't remember.
The funds from the account could be used to market educational materials funds or for some other worthy cause. Maybe to help members who could use a little financial boost. Any body have any thoughts? (Don't yell at me, Christine.)
Love and light,
Lisa

I was thinking the same thing...some form of rememberence. Or donate to the Her2 support web site to enable all women who have this disease to be able to continue to find the answers, love and compassion among many total strangers that I have received over the years on this board. This board is my lifeline!!!
It would be fitting to HONOR these women who have lost their battle by continuing their legacy of fighting though this site.

I thought the idea of setting up resource facilites at hospitals, books web access etc, specific information for newly diagnosed etc was a really worthwhile one and maybe something that would have wider potential if applicable.

Al is currently renovating a room at the hospital where Linda was being treated. He plans to stock it wth DVD's and educational reading material, that would be a great project.
Unfortunately, we cannot be a conduit for the money.

Thanks for the info re: Al. But, Joe, why can't we have a restricted fund as part of Her2support.org? Is it a matter of time constraints, Christine's desire or something else? I'm not trying to cause trouble, but rather to honor our departed friends.
Love and light,
Lisa

"The funds from the account could be used to market educational materials funds or for some other worthy cause. Maybe to help members who could use a little financial boost."
Lisa,
Although the HER2 Support Group has sufficient funds to sustain our operations, lack of funding posses an even greater restraint.
Next week members of our group will be attending ASCO in Atlanta. The total cost to our group for registration, lodging, airfares, promotional materials and literature exceeds $15,000 for the 4 1/2 day meeting. The same for San Antonio in December. I personally would like to increase our outreach program in order to attend more breast cancer functions. Maryann and Becky represented us at the Denver conference last February. We were fortunate to have these two volunteers represent us.
When the HER2 Support Group was first formed in 2001, we made a deliberate decision not to actively solicit funds from our members. We still abide by this decision, but, we would be willing to publish a memorial page to acknowledge donations made to our group on behalf of a deceased member.
As far as financial help is concerned, another online breast cancer group attempted to launch such a fund a few months back. This had led to some serious infighting and much disention among its members. We have in the past forwarded donations made by members to other members and will continue to do this if asked.
Warmest Regards and Happy Holidays.
Joe and Christine

Thanks for the reply, Joe. I have a question, though.
You say you'd be willing to publish a memorial page listing donations for deceased members. Would this be an ongoing thread on the Board or a permanent page elsewhere?
Thanks, too, for reminding us of the funds needed to keep HER2support.org afloat. I'll be sending my check as a memorial for our lost friends.
Love and light,
Lisa

I second what Joe said. I'm on the other online group and mixing BC support and information with fund raising and funds disbursement just did not mix.
Things quieted down after the fund was shut down and we got back to the business of supporting each other through our BC journey.
