I was diagnosed May 2000, 2.5 cm lumpectomy with three positive nodes. My oncologist tried to put me in a clinical trial but because I had heart palpitations seven years prior, they disqualified me. But, my oncologist wanted to give me the Herceptin outside of the trial, but my insurance would not pay for it (only covered when it metastasizes). And it is extremely expensive -- then I went to consult with Dr. Melody Cobleigh who was one of the founds of Herceptin. She agreed that she would have given me Herceptin with the Taxol, but since I had three treatments of taxol left it was too late. I then had four months of radiation after the AC/Taxol. I've had plenty of scares, but by the grace of God, I have not had a recurrence. Every door kept getting shut when I pursued the Hercepting, so I decided that it was God's way of telling me I wasn't going to need it. Blessings to you and your wife. Paula P.
