Drs. Slamon, Pegram...
DR. DENNIS SLAMON, M.D. PhD., Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology, regarded as a leading expert in the field of bc. His work in this disease over the past two decades led to the identification of HER-3 position bc as a distinct subtype of aggressive disease and ultimately to the development of the new drug Herceptin. An internet link to access a profile on Dr. Slamon -- at UCLA HEALTHCARE/HEMATOLOY-ONCOLOGY:
htt://www.healthcare.ucla.edu/insitution/physician?personnel id =8232
PATIENT SERVICES AT UCLA -- 1 - 888 - 662 - 8252.
************************************************** *****
DR. MARK PEGRAM, M.D. can be contacted at the University of Miami, Sylvester Compreshensive Cancer Center -- 305) 243 - 4909.
In a letter I received this past June from Dr. Pegram (as a previous patient) -- he also recommends colleagues remaining at UCLA: Dr. Sara Hurvitz (a leader in the UCLA BC Program), Dr. Saeed Sadeghi (actively involved in clinical trials in bc), Dr. John Glaspy (internationally recognized expert in bc).

'95 post-meno dx Invasive LOBULAR w/9cm tumor! YIKES + 2/21 nodes. Clear mammo 10 mnths earlier. Mastec/tram flap reconst/PORT/8 mnths chemo (4Adria/8CMF). Borderline ER/PR. Tamoxifen 2 yrs. Felt BLESSED. I could walk and talk, feed and bathe myself! I KNEW I would survive...

+ good old Vit H wkly for 1st 3 yrs, then triple dosage ev 3 wks for 7 yrs more... The "easy" chemo, right?! Not a walk in the park, but not a freight train coming at 'ya either...
Added Herceptin Nov '98 (6 wks after FDA fast-tracked it for met bc). Stayed w/Vit H till July '08! Now I AM FREE! Humbly and eternally grateful for this life-saving drug! NED since '99 and planning on keeping it that way. To hell w/poor prognosis and nasty stats! STOPPED VIT H JULY '08...! REMAIN STABLE... Eternally grateful...Yes is a world & in this world of yes live (skillfully curled) all worlds ... (e e cummings) EVERY DAY I BEAT MY PREVIOUS RECORD FOR # OF CONSECUTIVE DAYS I'VE STAYED ALIVE. Dr. Slamon is located on Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica, Ca. He is about 2 blocks from my Onc, Linnea Chap (who works closely with him). He is a great Onc! He should have a website, but I know he is in Santa Monica because I made an appt to go see him 6 months ago but canceled it when I realized that he and my Onc practice the same, are friends and collegues. Good Luck, Love, /Vickie

Is There still a way to get an appt with Dr. Slamon as a new patient? Does he have a location we can contact? The main UCLA office in Santa Monica is saying he is not accepting new patients.
