An other consideration to try improving the choice of the optimum treatment is for the patient to get informed as much as possible on their own or with the help of someone else such as nurse, other patient, family doctor or this Forum....
It is well known for instance that women are in the majority of cases the first to
discover a lump ( Doctors only find them in about 10% of the cases).
Oncs are often busy people not able or willing to spend enough time with each patient. They may also be under some constraints by their hospital directives on cost management to restrict diagnostic tests especially the expensive ones such as PET/CT scans which can make a difference in treatment selection.
So getting the best possible consideration by the medical staff requires good preparation on the part of the patient before going to medical appointments as Tom has urged in other posts.
Asking all the right questions is likely to end up getting a better treatment or at least give peace of mind that no stone has been left unturned.
