Access to ASCO 2006 presentations now available to the public
ASCO.org Virtual Meeting Available to Public at No Charge
Presentations from the 2006 Annual Meeting are now available on the ASCO.org Virtual Meeting, the largest collection of oncology-related multimedia presentations on the Web. This innovative tool is free to the public and features a variety of educational resources, including audio/video presentations, slide presentations, abstracts, and related articles from the Educational Book.
New in 2006, educational, scientific, and special sessions have been organized by disease and clinical theme tracks, and by clinically relevant subtopics within a series of topic pages nested in the 12 cancer-specific portal pages.
“Now users can go to a disease-specific portal page and, within that, a Virtual Meeting link that characterizes in a hierarchical way the topics that integrate both the education and scientific program and also brings attention to clinical scientific symposia and other relevant presentations,” says Ronald Blum, MD, 2005-2006 Chair of the ASCO Information Technology Committee.
For example, if users select Virtual Meeting on the breastca.asco.org home page, they will be directed to 2006 Annual Meeting presentations organized by disease-specific Highlights of the Day, Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Pathology and Tumor Biology, Prevention and Screening, Diagnosis, Staging and Prognostic Factors, Treatment by Stage, Supportive Care, and Other/Special Issues, aggregating both education and abstract presentations and providing easy access to specific searches on the latest research.
Additional resources are available to complement the ASCO.org Virtual Meeting, including the 2006 Annual Meeting Commemorative 3-DVD set (which offers the Plenary and Highlights of the Day sessions) and The Podcast Premium Program, with audio access to presentations from the Annual Meeting. These and other educational tools can be purchased online through the ASCO Bookstore.
