Pool Anyone??
Since my husband lost weight, I have been slowly replacing clothes with sizes that fit. Hey let's face it, when they do not fit you do look sick. He was the most disciplined and fit person I have ever known and losing 40 pounds (all muscle of course) really changed his body shape. So far I have replaced everything but summer shorts. Before shopping, eewww my favorite thing, I asked if he had any suggestions. Well he did.
He said, "Marie.....have you seen my legs???? You could shoot pool with them!!!" Girls, tears streamed down my face in laughter. We laughed for a good 20 minutes.
My point is this, especially for the new members to our lovely family: The longer away you get from the diagnosis, the more normal you life becomes again. Just when you thought that this is as normal as it will get, some more normalcy arrives in the nick of time.
We shall not settle and we will never think this is as good as it gets, normalcy arrives a little bit each day and we embrace it and say a prayer of thanks. We are the same people, as much as our life has changed, we are the same people only revised.
For our NEW FAMILY MEMBERS keep heart during your journey. Like I said, and with experience too, that the further away you get from that awful day the more normalcy, the more laughter, the more power you shall gather. And for us the worst day was not the day of diagnosis, it was the day before. The day before we had no power to fight this horrific battle, the day after we were empowered.
