As most of you may know, heat is not good for lymphedema. However, participating in a nice, relaxing hydrotherapy bath would still be good & safe for us -- just as long as the water temp doesn't go higher than 90's. Sorry, I forgot the exact figure, but I do remember it was in 90's for sure, maybe 92 degrees or 97...
I had a hydro bath back in December 2004, and it was WONDERFUL -- I LOVED it! Even the bath at 75 degrees felt too hot for me, I was SO grateful that I had the arbiturary call to adjust the water temp. The spa worker simply listened to me & turned down the knob for me. Prior to my spa appointment, I had told her about my breast cancer, espeically the mastectomy part, & lymphedema issue; so she would not have a heart attack, when I went into the room, dressed in only a body towel. Instead, she was pretty cool about it.
At the suggestion of my lymph therapist, I made sure to massage my arm prior and after the bath, so I turned out to be fine.
Personally, I think that hydro baths are MUCH more relaxing than the regular massage, like deep tissue -- just IMHO! :-) I am from California, so I must have grown into a 'fishy' ole lady! :-)
