Anyone have a sentinel node biopsy with a mastectomy? I have a friend who was just dx'd. 1 tumor is 1.3cm invasive ductial Grade 3, 1 smaller lateral tumor is DCIS. She had a surgical biopsy so we are NOT sure on the node involement yet but the preliminary path report is er-pr- and her2(+++).

Plans are for a mastecomy but I am researching sentinel node biopsy w/mastectomy and can't find specifics on this.

I had a sentinel node biopsy with my lumpectomy. The sentinel node was positive so auxillary disection did happen.

Any info or comments?
Thanks,
Juliet

Every case has a different perspective based on known facts, such as age, heretity, grade, multi-centric DCIS in the breast, even if it is one a decision needs to be made to prevent a recurrence. Every patient is entitled to a 2nd opinion and possibly a 3rd to be sure. By getting the best info, you can be satisfied with your decision knowing you've done your researchd.

Probably the surgeons would be the best one to ask about that. Seems to me that they are going to take out all the breast tissue, so that would include the nodes as well. And they will be slicing and analyzing all that tissue for whatever can be gleaned.
Looks like we have another Her2 sister in your friend. Let her know we are here to help.
