Way to go Mary Anne. I found my 7 weeks of radiation flew by. Doesn't it feel great to not have to go there everyday anymore? Another chapter closed for you.

Dx:3/06 had a lumpectomy April 19, 2006
Her2+ er/pr- Stage I Grade 3 tumor size 1.4 cm, node negative
AC 4 dense doses
34 radiation treatments including booster doses
receiving herceptin every 3 weeks since late August 2006 for 12 months

- Diagnosed 3 Jan 2007, Stage IIb, Mastectomy and axillary clearance 10 Jan 07, 6 of 19 nodes affected, multi-focal cancer, HER2 positive. Second mastectomy (prophylactic). Chemo - AC 3 months, Taxol 3 months - then radiation 5 weeks.
- Aug 2011 - Diagnosed with Stage IV mets to lung, sternum and 12 or so thoracic nodes - Rads to Sternum, then weekly abraxane and herceptin for 12 weeks.
- May 2012- good scans - all nodes still about normal size, hole in sternum repairing, lung tumour 'obliterated'.
Ongoing herceptin every 3 weeks. Bloods still all good! Life good!
- March 2013 - recurrence - tumours in lungs and mediastinum (coughing up blood) - immediate radiation treatment to right lung and mediastinum, still on Herceptin, and 3 months of Vinoralbine - stable for a little while!
- Coughing and breathlessness started again September 2013, treated as radiation-induced fibrosis (which can be seen on scans - albeit stable). ie puffers, steroids
- January 2014 - cough becomes bloody again, scans show big mediastinal tumour wrapped around and choking the life out of my right main bronchus, radiation deemed off limits as my lungs are hypersensitive to radiation (measured by existing damage from 2013) .....................- ie I am in the 5% of people likely to suffer severe radiation damage to the lungs that they warn you about before starting treatment! (so special! :) )
- Started chemo Feb 2014 - continuing Herceptin (continuous since Aug 2011), with Carboplatin and Gemcitabine. Discontinued Gemcitabine because of se's. Starting cycle 5 Herc/Carbo 5 May 2014.
- Meantime.....coughing and breathlessness increased to SCARY levels with racing heartbeat that won't slow down, breath that won't come back, even just walking to the bathroom or up 3 or 4 steps.
- ICU from May 5 2014, collapsed right lung due to tumour, small pulmonary embolism (left), tumours growing in mediastinum left and right, dvt lower right leg
- Plan seems to be bronchoscope next week to see if tumour can be lasered and stent inserted in right bronchus to reopen air access to lower parts of right lung. If that is successful might be able to have brachytherapy to worst tumour, otherwise no more options for external radiotherapy.

Thanks so very much everyone . . . and for the suggestions for what to put on it! I'm doing good so far, a bit itchy at times, but I have stuff for that. As I waked this morning, I was internally gearing up for getting to treatment until I realized I didn't have to go! You know, it's the strangest feeling about finishing each type of treatment. I count off the days, stay focused on getting to the end and when the end comes I'm so excited to be done, but also it becomes harder and harder to leave the people who give so much to take care of me. I got so many wonderful hugs yesterday from the three radiation nurses/technicians who had taken care of me all these weeks. They were so careful with me and blessed me with such kindness that it made things so much easier. I will miss them. And it makes me think that at the end of June I will be stopping my every 3 weeks trip for Herceptin. I so admire and appreciate all the people who are making this journey as easy as possible and filled with loving care. I want it over and I also dread the day I leave them all. Finished Herceptin Dec. 10 '08! One extra year.
Port removed August, 2012.

Congratulations Mary Anne! What a great feeling! It's so funny- the crisper I got, the happier I was- I felt like I was doing that much more to kick the cancer. Fry baby fry!!!!!! :-)

Hooray for you ! I was very surprised that the marks red, brown ,crispy etc, have all disappeared. I am hoping the same result for you !!

Keep using the cream
It is wonderful to be finished with the radiation. I finished my rads last summer but still have some edema in my nipple area. I had a lumpectomy. My rad Dr. said to continue putting a good creamy lotIon on my breast every day, even now. So keep using the cream and it's also a good way to check for anything unusual.

Finished 33 rads 6-5-06, Femara, Started Herceptin 6-22-06
Effexor for hot flashes, Taken off Herceptin Feb 2007 due to low LVEF (44 by Echo) Coreg & Lisinopril replaced bp meds - April Echo back up to 55 Resumed Herceptin 5-21-07.
2010: almost 5 YRS NED!!! Still taking Femara & Coreg. Due to all the CT scans, abdominal aneurysm found & repaired. Something good came out of having cancer.
2013 7+ years NED. Still on Femara
