I posted in a couple of weeks ago because I was completely lost with my mother's diagnosis (Mom/Questions) - I received such helpful information and so many words of support. Unfortunately, right after that post and her appt that day with the onc, she began deteriorating very quickly. Her onc did not seem to be aware of how sick she was, and was really pushing chemo w/ Herceptin, but watching the nurses (home health, and onc) gave us a very different story - they seemed to be very surprised that the doc would suggest putting her through chemo at this stage of the game. She decided against the chemo, signed onto hospice at home the following week, and passed away last Friday. The nurses who helped us to care for her were amazing, and we are all so thankful that we were able to keep her at home, she did not want to die in the hospital.
I just wanted to acknowledge the excellent information and words of support that I received here in my single post - I had never utilized a support site like this, did not know what to expect. Thank you Paul, Ron, Eleanor, Lolly, JaneP, LOLAM for your kind words and information.
I still do not have much education or knowledge on this topic other than what I received here, but I wanted to offer up my ear and my support to anyone who is supporting a loved one in the end stages of this disease. I'll follow the posts periodically, or feel free to email me directly.
Thanks again for such a great site,
Mel
