In a small study of patients with carboplatin allergy, desensitization protocols lasting less than 6 hours invariably failed, whereas a protocol involving dose escalation over 4 days was always successful, Australian investigators report. As they point out, up to 30% of carboplatin-treated patients experience hypersensitivity reactions.
