Petition to President Obama

You can sign online, pass the petition on to others, and print out the petition.

The National Breast Cancer Coalition is asking the President to publicly commit to Breast Cancer Deadline 2020.

Deadline 2020 is a major grassroots movement by the NBCC to end breast cancer.

Also, the NBCC is responsible for setting up in 1992 the DoD's Breast Cancer Research Program which has been funded by congressional appropriations each year to a total of over $1 billion. Each year, Fran Visco, NBCC's president, testifies to Congress and asks for funding for this program -- for next year $150 million. Each year breast cancer advocates contact their congressional representatives to sign the letter. I do this every year. Fran Visco is a 24-year breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed at age 39 when her son was 14 months old. She is an attorney.

The DoD's BCRP was instrumental in the development of Herceptin, and the NBCC insisted during the early clinical trials that survivors who were HER2 negative be EXCLUDED from those trials, as originally they were supposed to be included, which made a major difference to the outcome. All research proposals submitted to the DoD's program are reviewed by scientists and at least two breast cancer advocates, which the NBCC insisted on when the program was set up.

This year's NBCC advocacy training summit and lobby day on Capitol Hill in DC last weekend. It was great to be with many sisters and brothers who are breast cancer survivors. 600 attendees. Almost all the states were represented.
