When are chest X-Rays too much radiation?

I read somewhere there should be a limit of chest X-Rays due to excess radiation (especially on irradiated breasts). I am getting ready for a 6 month check-up and already all these tests are required. Wouldnt a PET do the same as a chest X-Ray? I know its more expensive, but after surgeries and radiation I really don't want more beams of radiation zapping me ...
