The Gang of Seven at San Antonio

I would sincerely like to thank the members who accompanied us who took time from their very busy Christmas schedules to help represent the HER2 Support Group at this very prestigious meeting.

I am sure that there will be more information posted from each individual as soon as they are reested up from the extremely grueling schedule at SABCS and their trips home.

From left to right:

Ginger Empey, Sandy Henry (SandyH), Joe, Christine, Al Schmidt (Al from Canada), Linda, Al's wife, Stephanie Ninaud (StephN) at our exhibit at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.

Wink Brains

FYI -
The little roundish gray things on the table are BRAINS. They are foam stress reducers that had the message to screen HER2 positive patients for brain mets.
So, that was one of the main messages we focused on this year at the symposium.
People loved them!

(Must have been Christine's "brainy" idea ...)

You all look great. I also want to thank you for being there. I also bought the same brains for my students when I went to the Learning and the Brain Conference this year.
Best wishes,
Barbara Holz

What is more amazing is that all of the ladies are stage IV metastatic. The pace at SABCS is exceptionally grueling. The typical day starts out with a 7:00 AM breakfast conference, The Symposium opens at 9 AM and closes at 5:00 with some activities ending at 7:00 PM.

The Alamo BC Foundation hosts a advocate Q&A session from 5:30 to 7:30 and then there are evening receptions which last until 10ish.

The next morning you get up around 6AM and start all over again.

But
it is all wothwhile.

Regards
Joe

What beautiful people! We are all so very proud of you! Maybe next time even more of us can go to one of these special conferences. It seems to me that seeing you all there must have given all the oncologists something to think about. I think sometimes some of them forget we are real people and not just patients and statistics! And getting the word out about this website is priceless. I am printing out this picture and the one of Joe and the wife of the herceptin creator for my bulletin board! Thank you all so much! Hugs, Tricia

Thank you

That's a great picture. I'm glad that you highlighted the brain mets problem. Maybe it will get the medical researchers thinking about this problem, too.

Talking aka "The Magnificent Seven"

Thank you for being our "face" at this important event, it really helps keep me going when I read all of the new data. AND, for the researchers to have a personal connection to this group is invaluable! You guys all get BIG HUGS!
