Ankle swelling

Hi all,

Has anyone here experpienced swelling of the ankles. I've heard it can be related to heart issues. My ankles have hurt for the past few days and one is swollen. I've also had some fever daily and have no energy to get out of bed.

I have my scans Tuesday, but my onc is leaving for vacation. I think I'll call him in the a.m.

iam sorry I do not know about swollen ankles but I hope you feel better soon. Good idea to contact the Onc before he goes away.

A fever typically indicates some kind of infection. Maybe your ankle is infected?

Good idea to catch your onc before his vacation!

I don't know anything about swollen ankles either, but I just wanted to let you know, I still think of you often and wonder how you are doing, and right now it doesn't seem to hot. I hope the onc. has some answers for you before he leaves town. As always, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Yes, swollen ankles can be caused by heart problems and or kidney too that I know of there might be other causes too , usually it is fluid overload, try to keep your legs elevated.If it gets too bad they usually will give you a diuertic pill to help get rid of the extra fluid.I hope you get ahold of your Oncologist before vacation, Mine just got back from a vacation It must be vacation time :-)

Dear Lisa, my Dad has had trouble with swollen ankles because of heart trouble, and they do hurt when they're puffy. Bonnie's advice is good, plus some gentle massage to pull the fluid back into the torso. It's a similar situation to lymphedema in the arm, if that is indeed what your doc thinks is going on. Hope you get answers today, as it's worrisome with a fever on top of it. Let us know!

during chemo I had swollen feet and ankles. The chemo docs never seemed worried and they just told me to keep my feet raised as much as possible. I slept with several pillows under my feet. Maybe you should be talking to a cardiologist not your oncologist? Have you done a heart scan and sonogram recently? Do you eat salty food? Remember to drink water. Good luck.

sounds more like kidney stuff to me...how is your kidney function???

Lisa,

Just after chemo when I was doing radiation my one leg was swollen. I had to see my onc nurse due to RBC and she was concerned as she said that certain chemos cause blood clots (due to the heat she would have thought that was the cause if it were both legs, but this was only the one). A fill in rad onc doc was also concerned and sent me to to have an ultrasound of my leg and this showed no swelling. The swelling lasted approx a month and just went away. My Herceptin partner who is also on Xeloda had the same thing to, but it was fine. Better to be safe than sorry though as they can put you on Coumadin until it clears up (my onc nurse told me this). Hi Lisa, My Dr. checks for swollen ankles every visit, which is every 3 weeks. I always thought it was a drug related reason but I have never asked. I am on Herceptin/Femara/Coumadin. If he is checking for it there must be a reason that we have in common. Take Care and keep smiling. Sally
