I heard that some are now being treated less frequently than once every 4 weeks with Zometa. Is anyone currently on less frequent schedule? My wife, Caryn, is getting this to prevent bone mets and I would love to be able to ask about reducing the amount since she experiences some side effects and would welcome the chance to minimize any possibility of jaw necrosis.

Thanks, Eric

I'm surprised to hear that she's being given Zometa to PREVENT bone mets. I thought it was only given AFTER bone mets.

I'm getting it monthly, too.

As far as the jaw problem, it happens very infrequently and usually after major dental work.

Love and light,

Lisa

Hi Eric -
I have been getting Zometa every 6 weeks for a little over a year. Prior to that I had it every 3 weeks when I got my Herceptin for about 18 months.

I had the beginnings of bone mets along with my very extensive liver mets. I took fosamax during the chemo for those mets and once pronounced NED was put on Zometa as a bone strengthener AND preventative.

Seems I do fine on this schedule and my med onc says this lessens the risk of side effects.
