Just needed to vent

Good morning everyone. I don't post often but I check the site everyday to see how you are all doing.

I am struggling a little bit at work. I work for an organization that raises money for lung cancer research. It is a cause that is very close to my heart since my mom passed away from lung cancer in January of 2006. It is a wonderful organization and lung cancer is a terribly underfunded disease. So many people are bitter at the attention that breast cancer receives and I hear about it almost on a daily basis ... especially now when the city of Chicago is decked out in pink. I always have to bite my tongue and it is getting harder.

On another note I am running the Chicago Marathon this weekend. Although I am running in memory of my mom I am also running for all of you. You have been such an inspiration to me and I have learned so much on these boards. I am trying to figure out how to "show" everyone on the streets of Chicago that I am running for the HER2 women. If any of you have an idea, please let me know!

thanks for letting me vent ... Lisa

Lisa,
I share your frustration. A few years ago, we approached a local supermarket about the possibility of doing fundraising for our group in October.

This store raised funds annually for a large national BC group. Within a day Christine received a threatening phone call from the group's headquarters about our organization invading their "territory" and warning of dire consequences if we continued our effort.

Keep in mind that this was a single store and the other organization has income in millions annually.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Regards
Joe

Hi Lisa,

I hear ya. I have friends that have cancer but it is not breast cancer and they will say too at times that they wish their cancer would get the recognition and funding that breast cancer receives. Hey, I wish that too. I wish they all did. It's tough.....

Enjoy your marathon this weekend - Your mom will be running with you and loving you through it.

Hugs to you...

Mary Jo

Just run. Enjoy that run too. This year's Chicago marathon is supposed to be really stocked with water, gatorade and I think gel due to shortages last year and of course, the heat. At least this year will be cooler. I will be thinking of you as I at least check in to how the major Marathons go in general. Secondly, I do my long run on Sundays just to be in the mood (even though I only go 8-10 miles and not 26. Incredible).

Oh, and at work - don't let the turkeys get you down.
