Personally, I would go into detail with my gynecologist...it's appropriate to raise with the oncologist for sure, but I think each doctor has more time, and knowledge, specifically for their areas of expertise....Just my opinion though.

That is true Vi but oncologists are becoming more and more aware of quality of life issues. Mine just went to a Breast cancer conference on quality of life issues - ie: libido, menopausal symptoms (to include all urogenital problems) etc. He told me these issues cannot be ignored by the oncological community and should be discussed with patients (even if some of the problems are solved via other medical specialists working with oncologists).

you'r right Becky...I guess the point I was trying to make was that you know your own doctors best...my gynecologist spends so much time and has always asked the real down to earth questions in the last 23 years. The oncologist answers in detail any questions I have, but not the same "relationship" with him. I am relieved to see that oncologists like yours are becoming more involved with qol issues. Take care.

Re: Stillhere's poll question #2
I've never raised the issue with my onc so can't be sure how to answer this.
I think she'd be sympathetic as she's a young woman herself, just never brought the subject up and neither did she.

Re: Stillhere's poll question #2
Were I a newly diagnosed patient, this whole discussoin would seem very bizarre to me. It is obvious that this is a question that is important for whatever doctor is prescribing the therapy that causes this question to need to be dealt with, to not only grasp in terms of its full meaning for the patient he or she is treating, but to advise the patient about in advance of treatment. If this is beyond the treating provider to do it then it is up to that provider to be sure that a medical provider who is more capable has done so, as part of what is legally called "informed consent".
The whole discussion provides significant answer to the question Stillhere was asking:
"Do you think your oncol avoids discussion concerning libido? "
It doesn't have to be the onc who actually does it. He or she can cop out if they want to, but they should be making sure that a GYN or a nurse who has more guts does it ahead of time so that the patient can use that information as part of their decision-making process about whether or not they think the treatment is worth the trouble and expense before they are treated. This is not a "minor issue" to be dealt with only "after the therapy" "if the question comes up".

Re: Stillhere's poll question #2
Your poll is showing that I have already voted.....in all of them. I haven't participated in any!

Re: Stillhere's poll question #2
Hi Merridith. I read your post and I tried testing using my own sign-on 2 different ways, and either way it tells me that I already voted (which is true) and can't vote again. I do not know why, if you have never voted on these, it would tell you that you have. The site had problems at one point and I think had to be reconstructed in some way but I don't know if that would have anything to do with it, or whether it would be something related to duplicate Merridith's. It may be that we would need to do a fresh poll because of the previous re-entry of database participants.
However, the percentages have changed very little since the first time the polls were conducted.

Re: Stillhere's poll question #2
I was told I had voted on all of them too, and had no way to vote again.
I assumed it was an old poll brought forward to get more replies??

Re: Stillhere's poll question #2
Hi Tricia,
Doing a search brought one of the polls forward with a new comment added to it, but because they were all numbered, I brought the rest forward in response to a request that was part of the comment on the one single poll question. The questions Stillhere had asked -- and the results -- are still interesting.
