Lapatnib?? what is it?

Hi everyone,

I didn't recieve herceptin as I was diagnosed in 03 at stage 2a. It's been 3 years now. I was on tamoxifen for 2.2 years and just recently stopped because of side effects. Saw my oncologist 2 weeks ago and she didn't mention Lapatnib. I did ask her if I could still take herceptin and she said no so I'm surprised she didn't mention anything else that's out there.
So my question is, what is Lapatnib? can you take it 3 years out? Is it like herceptin? what has your onc told you about it?

cheers to everyone
Cindy

For The Lost Regiment of HER2's

Hi Cindy. Look at the thread on the clinical trials forum by Rhonda H: ***Glaxo starts test of Tykerb in early breast cancer***

Your diagnosis was almost 4 years ago. Whatever treatments you had during the interval, apparently things are working out well for you. The critical period of metastasis is from 1.5 to 2.5 years. Therefore, the chance of fully cured is very good. This factor should be taken into consideration in your and your onc's decision on what you need to do. Best luck. Happy new year.

thanks for responding..... I'm just nervous about being her2+. I just got off of tamoxifen because it was debilitating. The onc isn't sure if I'm postmenopausal so she's "watching" me to see if I'd qualify yet for arimadex. I guess I'm nervous being her2+ and not being on anything right now is freaking me out.

Is arimadex as crazy as tamoxifen? Does it make you gain weight as well? I'm 20lbs overweight from tamox. I used to be a rail and now it's out of control! I gain weight just from breathing air!

Happy New Year,
Cindy

Red face

Hi I had my ovaries removed to take Arimidex and be certain I'm menopausal.

So far I'm doing okay on the Arimidex with mainly just some joint aches and stiffness which goes when I exercise.
I did'nt like the side effects of Tamox and had heard Arimidex was better for her2 positive people.
