Thumbs up Diagnosed 99 did vaccine trial at UW

I was diagnosed in 99, and have taken CLA, fish oil, Dimm, and at times tumeric, along with green tea and astragalus, and a number of other herbs such as milk thistle. I asked for Herceptin but at time of diagnosis it was so new. Would love it now...am going to ask Doc if should do this so long out of chemo which was Adriamycin/Taxotere, experimental at the time... I also did rads. Still nervous about Her2neu...I did the clinical vaccine dendritic trial at UWash in 1999/2000 and believe it probably is the biggest reason I am doing fine so far. I have a child with special needs and very determined to take care of him until he can take care of himself as an adult...Love to you courageous friends all...Glad to be a new member here!

Thumbs up Early vaccine trial

Hello!
I found your post very interesting that you were in the very early days of HER2 vaccine trials at the U of W.
My diagnosis came in the second half of 2000 and my med onc (here in Seattle) mentioned that I might be a candidate for one of the vaccine trials. I progressed too soon to join that trial. I do know of at least one woman in the early trials who relapsed fairly quickly, so your post that you are this far out of that trial and still OK is very hopeful.
I too took the Adria/Taxotere treatment, which did not work at ALL for me.
You may have a hard time convincing a doc to prescribe the Herceptin at this late date, but you have good reason to go for it. Best of luck with that quest.

Glad you came out of the woodwork.
Reminds me of another Ginger Empy who is over TEN years out on Herceptin. We need to hear more stories of this sort from early trials that seem to drop off the earth.

Diagnosed 99

CNMN:You are apparently doing well. What stage were you at diagnosis and did you have any positive nodes?
