Anyone from Ontario on this board?
Hi everyone. I am just wondering if anyone here is from Ontario. I am from Mississauga and would like to connect with some gals in or around the Ontario region. It would be great to hear from any of you!

I'm in Ontario but I'm way the heck up north. I think Caya lives in Mississauga ... you'll probably hear from her.

Re: Anyone from Ontario on this board?
Hi Pinkgirl! I love northland! It must be beautiful up there this time of year. The Fall colors. Thanks for your response. Just looking for some fellow Ontarians . Sad to see you on here, but happy for this wonderul site. I just finished chemo 3 weeks ago and am starting rads next week. Continueing on hercepton until May. I am just feeling that kinda , what next . The protocol in Ontario is no Ct scans or nothing to check . ( unless you have complaints or there is some reason, but not just for followup) I know we have a wonderful Provincial Health system, but it seems like others have many scans?

Re: Anyone from Ontario on this board?
Hi Cathy,
I live in Thornhill, just south of Hwy. 407. I had my mastectomy at Princess Margaret and had my chemo and Herceptin treatments at Mount Sinai, right next door. Where are you being treated?
It's all very daunting, but you will get through it. We are so lucky to have our wonderful universal health care system where every citizen gets treatment... we don't have to worry about how we will pay, fight with insurance companies if we need certain tests etc. It's bad enough being sick, never mind worrying about those other issues.
It's the standard of care not to do unnecessary scans etc. But you can get many things done - I get a digital mammo once/year at Princess Margaret, a breast MRI once/year at Mount Sinai, a pelvic and transvaginal U/S yearly with my GP, a bone density with my GP. Obviously if I had symptoms, my onc. would do more scanning - but I'm not as worried as I used to be, and you'll see, the anxiety will lessen as you get further out from treatment.
In fact, today Oct. 16th, is my 4 year cancerversary!!
all the best
caya

Re: Anyone from Ontario on this board?
Cathy,
I lived in Brantford, Ontario several years and feel a little Canadian. I am back in my home country now Mexico. I still keep many friends back in Ontario and go everytime I have a chance. I got my treatments and medical attention in Mexico.

Re: Anyone from Ontario on this board?
Sorry Caya ... Thornhill/Mississauga ...
Don't worry about the scans Kit ... you will get them if you need
them. I've had lots of CT's and MRI's and I was dx. Stage 2a.
Not all, but most of the members here who are having regular
CT's and MRI's are Stage 4 ... this is also the standard in Ontario.
Good luck with this adventure.

Re: Anyone from Ontario on this board?
Hi Caya,
My cancer centre is at Credit Valley Hospital, it is the newest regional Cancer Centre in this region. My radialogist is from Princess Margaret . I live 5 minutes away from the hosptial. I would have preferred Princess Margaret but they assured me the standard of care for chemo, radiation is the same. I actually am seeing a breast surgeon next week from Mt. Sinai, she also specailizes in breast oncology at Princess Margaret .I wanted her opionion as they rank as " the best".... I will be discussing breast reconstruction . It is a scary road! I feel that i have conqueered the hardest part, mastectomy, chemo, TCH x 6 rounds. it was doable.I twin boys age 9 and I still had the energy to play with them and get mad at them!! LOL....
Yes we are very lucky indeeed for our Health Care System that everything is covered and we are all treated for what we need, free of charge! I know i am in the best hands but still continue to be my own advocate and on top of things. I notice that my Oncologists don't really push Clinical Trials, ( they say I am on Hercepton and that should do it). Is that because I am stage 2b? I would be very interested in this TDMI vaccine or Tykerb..( I keep reading about) .any thoughts or input? As all of you I want to do anything I can to be proactive. You are all a very wise bunch and I appreciate any input!
Thanks pinkgirl! I know if i need , they will give! Have a great wek-end all ! It is so beautiful outside!
Hugs
Cathy xox
