Need New Oncologist - East Coast - Help!

Hi Amazing Group,

My cousin Kathy lives in Seekonk MA so she is in the center of many cancer centers but she has had a terrible time with getting an oncologist to work with. She is having a very hard time with her first chemo treatment and is in need of a caring, detail oriented oncologist.

Anyone out there have an amazing onc. that would be driving distance for Kathy?

She has been going to one at Rhode Island Hospital, but the doc. and hosp. have given her way less than concerned care - I am appalled! My experience has been so wonderful compared to hers.

Thanks for any help you can give us on this!

Have a great day!

Donna

Donna--if by east coast you include New York City, send me a private message and I'll give you the name of my oncologist. I just posted something about him on another thread. He's somewhat aggressive in his treatment recommendations, but not pushy. Best of all, though, he is very sympathetic and kind.

I go to a very large cancer center in New York, with many practicing oncologists, yet the minute I mention my oncologist's name, everyone says immediately, "isn't he wonderful!" He's originally from Minnesota, so he doesn't have that abrupt New York way that might irritate some people.

I'm moving to Maine shortly, ten hour drive from here, but intend to keep my New York insurance for at least another year (and return every three months) just because I like him so much!

My Oncologist is Dr. Brenda Haynes. She is at NE Hematology & Oncology Associates in Wellesley, MA (works through the program at Newton-Wellesley Hospital). She is AMAZING and I have not felt uncomfortable at all with my life in her hands since diagnosed 21 months ago with Stage 4 breast cancer. I feel incredibly lucky to have her as my oncologist. I drive about 45 minutes to see her (and for all my chemo treatments)...Seekonk is probably only about 10 - 15 minutes further away. Thier office number is: (781) 237-0700. The nurses there are also incredible.

Dearest Donna

I am so sorry to hear about your cousin Kathy and I cannot express how sorry I am for you too, sweetheart. I do not know the doctor's name at Rhode Island Hospital, but I am sorry about that too. They are suppossed to have a great cancer center there, but we will only be going for WBR & radiation to pelvis and not to see an Oncologists. We know nothing of their other doctors, except what I have learned from Breast Cancer Seminars.

As for doctor's in the area I strongly suggest two:

Dr Anthony Thomas (Chief Oncologist of Pawtucket Memorial & the creditials go on), he used to work closer to us and moved to run their Cancer Center, I am not to fond of driving to Providence or Pawtucket, but we are stuck doing so. I would travel anywhere for great doctor's but I also have to think of how he is feeling and how far is too far. I would travel to Boston to see him!!!!

Dr Sundaresan Sambandam (Cranston) He happens to be a very good friends doctor that we used for a second opinion. We may have to change doctors when things get rough and he will be keeping track of my husband's journey for that reason.

I have to say that these 2 doctors have been in the Medical Journals and have earned many achievements in the Oncology world. The friends we have in our life that have cancer all go to these two doctors and all refuse to go to any other. Their compassion, bedside manners and their need for your quality of life are their top priority.

I know that everyone is different and their needs are different, that is why I gave you the top 2 doctors we know here in RI. I also worked on the Oncology floor of the hospitals these two legends are from. They have also come highly recommended from the American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute.

I hope I could give you maybe a start for the mission you are on. We send love and prayers for your dear cousin and the family and friends whom love her. God bless and big hugs.>>Waiting For A Miracle>>Believe51

Dana Farber, in Boston has some very fine Oncologists. I dont know how far it is from your cousin tho. I believe Dr Eric Winer is there as well as Dr Judy Garber who has a stellar reputation.

Warmly,Marcia
