I'm going to ask for this too.

My last chemo appointment is 4/13, and when we meet with the onc I have a whole list of questions to ask him, including one about using this test to track my serum her2 levels. Have you discussed with him how often you are going to test your blood for this? I will be on maintenance herceptin every 3 wks and wonder how often we should test.

Thanks!

Sheila, good luck! I had dropped off a copy of the printable brochure Joe provided here, last week, so he had time to check into it before my appt. yesterday.

Lee, we talked about monthly if the results are elevated, but if I have a normal reading I don't know how often. I'm thinking he'll use the same model we used with the CEA tumor marker when I was on Herceptin maintenance; we tested CEA levels every 3 months in the absence of symptoms, then when I had symptoms he would order the CEA along with scans. So I think it will be the same with the Her2 Serum, but I'm not clear on that
If one is Stage IV then insurance coverage shouldn't be a problem, but if you have earlier stage disease it might be an issue, be sure to check out that angle.

My onc has suggested the Bayer Serum Her2 every 6 weeks along with the Ser 15-3. I have just been taken off herceptin for heart issues and the earliest I expect to be put back on is 4 months. That will give me the opportunity to see what these tests show twice before they are taken after herceptin which I think will be interesting. I will be very interested in your experience with these tests and the results you get. I will keep you informed of mine in case that is of any help. Also, I live in Canada and the lab is trying to figure out who to deal with. Does anyone know? I live in Ontario.

Thanks,

Cathya
