Tumor retest

Hi everyone,

I live in Canada and am going to have my tumor retested in the States so that I can more accurately determine my ER status. In Canada (BC) the tumor was rated ER+1 as they don't go by percentages. If I am going to take an AI, which made me very nauseated, I want to know what % I am.

I also have a few other questions for those of you living in the States.

The tumor was tested for:

FISH
IHC
Grade
ER/PR status
HER2 status

But, I notice that in some of your signatures, you list many tests I have not heard of. I had the TOPO2 test done, but what other tests should I ask for? Oncotype?
What other tests should I ask for when it is sent to a reference lab, as they call them here?

Does the TOP02 test indicate what type of chemo is best? What test would indicate that?

Thank you, ladies
Dianne

There is now a link between DES exposure in utero and breast cancer!

Re: Tumor retest

Diane,

I live in Toronto and my tumour was tested for ER/PR ( in percentages - I am ER 90%/PR 50%) . I had IHC and then FISH as the IHC was inconclusive. I have the numbers at home, I am out of town right now and I cannot remember the exact numbers for the Her2+.

Other scores I have are the Bloom Richardson score - out of a possible 9 - they test 3 different "characteristics" of the tumour including mitosis - how fast the cancer is growing, etc. Again I have this info at home on my tumour diagnosis report - I will post it all when I get home. I know my tumour(s) ended up being stage 1, grade 2, with mucinous features.

You might want to see if they will send your tumour to Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto for re-evaluation - # 1 cancer hospital in Canada, rated in the top 5 in the world. Then you would probably be covered and not have to pay anything to send it to the States.

all the best
caya
