Smile Surgery is done

Well, I finally got my mastectomy yesterday. I am just home from the hospital and feeling relieved. I can't yet look at it but I know over the course of the next few days, I will develop the courage.

Just wanted to share.

Tonya

Gentle Hugs

Hi Tonya,

I'm relieved for you that your surgery is finally over. Praise God!! You will face looking at the area your breast was removed when the time is right for you and I ask our Lord to give you His strength as you endure this part of your journey. I've had both of my breasts removed so I understand where you are today.

Sending gentle hugs to you - sending my love to you and always I pray for all my her2 family as we journey along this road together.

Love and peace to you Tonya,

Mary Jo

Hi Tonya!
I'm glad that it is done. I remember having exactly the same feeling about looking at the surgery. I wanted to and I didn't want to. What I discovered was that it wasn't nearly as daunting as I predicted. Somehow I think when we have the surgery, we get blessed with a matter-of-fact attitude about the whole thing for a few weeks. We just take in what we can and put the rest on hold til later.
You've done the hard part. Take terrific care of yourself and let your family pamper you and love on you like crazy! Much love, ma

Dear Tonya

This part of your journey is now behind you. For all intents and purposes, you are cancer free now - it is gone. Alittle more Navelbine and Herceptin for good measure!

I am glad that this surgery could finally take place and you have come through it well - good enough to post to us that you are home.

Rest well and heal. You know we are all thinking about you.

Love and a (very gentle) hug

Glad you had a smooth surgery. To me, mastectomy was a lot better than lumpectomy because I had real bad lymphedema of the breast after lumpectomy. Take it easy. Know that we are all praying for your recovery.

Tonya

You got over a big hump with the surgery. The first few days are the worst. I remember my sister looking for the first time and for her it was not a big deal. She was happy to be rid of what she saw as the thing that was trying to take her life. I know everyone looks at it different however.

I pray that you heal up quickly and that you dance with NED!

Your sister in Christ,
Lisa

I'm glad your surgery is behind you. When the time is right you will "look," and I pray it will be as non-eventful as mine was. For me, I was glad to be rid of the drainage tubes. As I told my husband after surgery, as we get older the men start to resemble women in the chest and the women start to resemble men -- it all works out somehow. Be well and stay strong.
