Too much vit. A not good for bone density...

Just wanted to pass on that large doses of vitamin A have an adverse effect on bone density and promotes osteoporosis. I just learned this from uptodate.com medical website. I know some here take Vit A for various reasons, however, do it in moderation in order to avoid bone problems.

Vitamin A and synthetic retinoids — Vitamin A excess intake appears to increase the risk of hip fracture in women. The mechanism by which this may occur counteracs the ability of vitamin D to maintain normal serum calcium concentrations, thereby leading to accelerated bone resorption and fractures. ].
The current recommended intake of vitamin A is 5000 U/day,avoid supplements with >5000 units of vitamin A per day.

Vitamin A

Dear Robin: The pharmacist at the hospital I go to receive the Her treatments told us about the toxicity of vitamin A, even thought is supposed to be an antioxidant too much of it is not good even for young people. I take a multi-vit a day with just 2,500 u/day.

Thanks for sharing..
