Ground Flax

Can someone explain to me the benefits of taking 2 T. of ground flax daily. What does the research show etc?

Much appreciated.

Marejo,

If you search by clicking on search above and enter flax seed or flaxseed you hopefully will find quite a lot of posts on the subject.

Mary Jo--Lots of stuff posted, some by me. The Canadian study, done on women diagnosed with breast cancer, fed women a flaxseed muffin with 25 grams of ground flaxseed (25 grams is more than three heaping soupspoons) and when the women had their surgeries found that proliferation rates, etc. had improved, considerably in HER2 positive cancers.

Also, I saw cardiologist last week and she gave me her list of foods to take to reduce cholesterol naturally, and the first one was flaxseed. I didn't want to take a statin as I'm on so many other drugs and she agreed that it might be best to wait to take a statin until I'm off herceptin.

In the 50's, German scientist Johanna Budwig found that flaxseed and cottage cheese (or yoghurt) also cured some cancers.

You can look up both via the internet. I usually collect information from websites such as this and then review them through the literature to be sure that it's best for me. So many people, including doctors, have different opinions on supplements that it's always best to rely on self. My radiologist, a doctor born in Europe, closed the door of her office in my cancer clinic when we discussed supplements, as she said American doctors have a bias against them. She did not and told me about a number that I now take.

Sloan Kettering also has a website which includes information about natural supplements and it has some information on flaxseed. I use this website to be sure I'm not mixing any supplements I shouldn't.

Thank you Grace. The information at the Sloan Kettering site was very helpful to me and answered a few questions for me.
