Atypical post-radiation vascular lesions (AVLs)
I haven't been here for a while (Grace) but have a question if any of you can help. I had a biopsy on a lesion on my breast (about one inch above lumpectomy scar and just received pathology report. It's an AVL, which is caused by radiation. They are very rare and benign, from my research, with not much follow-up information to determine if they eventually turn into angiosarcomas, angiosarcomas, which are malignant, and quite serious. Pathologist recommend a re-excision to determine if it may be more serious. Dermatologist said wait and see if it grows back before going further. No way on the last recommendation, so I intend to return to New York (currently in Maine) and have a re-excision. I'm wondering if anyone on the board has had an AVL and how it was treated and if you had any further difficulties after intial treatment. Thanks, Grace
