How Long Does Herceptin Stay In Our System?

After reading someone elses post where they said "I don't know how long herceptin stays in our systems" it got me thinking and wondering..............................Does anyone know how long it stays in our system? I've been off herceptin for 9 months now and would surely assume it's gone. Just curious who knows what about this.

Thanks

Mary Jo

at conferences I have heard up to 6 months quoted

There was a paper with Pamela Klein as one of the authors regarding the fact that the metabolism/clearance rate difference between fast and slow metabolizers/clearers of the monoclonal antibody varies by as much as 43% in patients with metastatic breast cancer (never saw a paper for those with early breast cancer) so the result may vary person to person anyway.

Hope this helps.

I wonder if there is a difference in response between fast and slow metabolizers?

Thank you Joe. I've oftened wondered how long it stayed in your system but really never thought to ask here or to ask my onc.

So, thanks. That information is just what I wanted to know.

Hi Mary Jo,

I have wondered the same thing. It seems like it would make sense to have a periodic "maintenance dose", but I have not heard of that happening in non-metastatic patients.

My Onc had said to me that Herceptin could be still in measurable quantaties as long as 6 months after the last infusion. I think a lot has to do with the individual metabolism and imune systems. I know that I had effects to my heart for at least that long.
